Join us for our regular Forest for Peterborough - Woodland Heritage Conservation and Craft Days, every Thursday and last Saturday of the month, 10.00am-4.00pm, and learn traditional skills associated with our ancient woodlands in Bretton.

Please be prepared to take part in all activities as class sizes are limited and will rotate accordingly.

Please wear suitable clothing and footwear, taking into account mosquitoes, thorns and Britain’s unpredictable weather!

Children are welcome but will require parental supervision and may not be able to take part in all activities.

Every Thursday we meet on Essendyke Road, Bretton, Peterborough. PE3 8JD from 10.00am to 10:15am when we will then travel to our woodland location.

On the last Saturday of every month we work in Grimeshaw Wood on Essendyke Road, Bretton, Peterborough. PE3 8JD from 10am to 4pm.

The wider community are working together to rekindle the traditional woodland crafts in the local Nature Reserve at the heart of our neighbourhood.

Grimeshaw Wood is located on either side of Bretton Way surrounding the Barnstock, Benland, Eyrescroft, Essendyke, Hyholmes and Westhawe estates.

The wood was historically part of the Royal Rockingham Forest that has been in existence since the end of the last ice age and has been actively managed by our ancestors for at least the past 2000 years.

We run weekly activity sessions in partnership with local forestry, ecology and woodcraft professionals who have been sponsored by the project funders to train our volunteers.

• Craft - Introduction to traditional crafts.
• Kids - Forest school style based activities.
• Management - Coppicing & habitat management work.
• Camp - Food prepared in the woods and cooked on an open fire

Bretton’s Ancient Woods, to the East of Peterborough and once part of William the Conqueror’s Royal Rockingham Forest, are being made more accessible to the public thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Woodland Heritage in Action, a project run by the independent charity Peterborough Environment City Trust in partnership with Peterborough City Council, will see this ancient urban woodland restored and made fully accessible for the first time in over 75 years.
