Covid-19

As parent carers ourselves we appreciate how truly frightening and difficult this time is for all of you. As such we have arranged to operate a rota system for a helpline that parent carers can dial into if you need advice, sign posting or simply to hear someones voice.
This will be available from 12pm - 3pm on weekdays by calling 07780586475, or alternatively you can email communities@familyvoice.org to request a call back.

23/07/2020 Covid Update

July has seen us continue to work hard to keep the voices of parent carers high on the agenda of the Local Authority and Health. There have been weekly EHCp easement meetings, ongoing reporting to strategic SEND boards and work to gather views of parent carers. Please do continue to feedback your views to us so that we can ensure we are truly representative.

Difficult decisions have also been made this past month by the Trustees. After thorough risk assessments it has been decided to keep the caravans owned by FVP shut for the season and also for the Goldhay Centre to remain closed to the public.

Finally although we are going to be working over the summer, it will be with a smaller team and for less hours as the majority of whom are parent carers take a break. If we are needed we can be contacted by phone and email, but it may take a little longer than usual to respond, so please bear with us.

Becoming a Parent Representative

Are you a parent carer? Do you have a desire to improve SEND services for all Peterborough parent carers? We are looking for new parent representatives to volunteer for us on an ad hoc basis, gathering the feedback of other parent carers, and reporting back to the board. There will also be the opportunity to attend strategic meetings and boards to work in co-production representing all Peterborough parent carers in service provision. Full training is provided and you would be initially buddied with one of our existing representatives, please do get in touch to find out more.

Hours are variable from as little as 3 a month to a day a week, depending on work you get involved with. Current opportunities exist in SEND meetings, on Partnership Boards (ASD and Carers), Health Boards (Mental and Physical) and other work streams.

Overview of the ADHD / ASD Parent Groups

With funding from Family Voice Peterborough, Pinpoint Cambridgeshire has facilitated the ADHD/ASD parent groups since December 2015.  10 sessions are put on throughout the year.  Generally, no groups run during the August school holiday or December.

In Peterborough groups run on Thursdays 10-12 at:

Family Voice Peterborough
105 Paynels, Orton Goldhay
Peterborough, PE2 5QP

Information on dates, times and venues for Peterborough plus our other groups can be found on our ADHD/ASD groups webpage: http://www.pinpoint-cambs.org.uk/help-cambridgeshire-parents/pinpoint-adhdasd-groups-for-parents/

We usually have a speaker at each group.  Some are geared more towards ASD some ADHD or both.  The meetings can sometimes be informal with a short talk from the speaker, then time for a chat with other parents over coffee or a more structured information session with a longer presentation from the speaker.  Speakers/Themes at the Peterborough have included:

  • SCOPE - Independent support – EHCP’s
  • Contact (National SEND Charity)– Services and support in local area
  • Marlene Hall Family worker (Wisbech ADHD group)
  • Think Autism – Core Features of Autism
  • Claudia Dias -  Lego Therapy
  • YMCA Trinity - Anxiety and depression
  • NHS Occupational Therapist – Sensory Information Session

The groups are designed for parents/carers and other family members whose children or young people are on the waiting list, have had a referral turned down or are accessing services for ADHD/ASD – either with or without a diagnosis.  Parents/ carers/ and relatives are all welcome to attend who have children or young people of any age.  Family Workers/SENCO’s/Teaching Assistants also occasionally attend to support anxious parent/carers.  We don’t have childcare facilities at our groups, but we can pay for any childcare expenses, plus any travel expenses.

Parent/carers feedback that they feel more relaxed, supported and empowered after attending our groups because they feel they have gained valuable information, know what they need to do for their child plus have met others in a similar situation.
