The Family Mediation Trust

We pride ourselves on providing a client-centred service. We strongly believe that mediation can help families through difficult times, helping separated couples build a new relationship based on fairness and respect, so that they can move forward and provide a stable, happy future for their children.
Whilst we are customer-focused and professional, being a charity also allows us to support the families of the East of England in additional ways. We offer a reduced-fee service for low income families who do not qualify for legal aid. For those that do qualify for Legal Aid we are able to provide the mediation service for free.
The Family Mediation Trust is the new name for the combined services of the Norfolk Family Mediation Service and the Cambridge Family Mediation Service. These two services have been delivering family mediation and other supportive programmes to families across Norfolk and Cambridgeshire for over 37 years.
The Family Mediation Trust is currently delivering its services online through Zoom, Teams, Skype and WhatsApp. When face-to-face delivery resumes, the Service deliver mediation in Peterborough, Norwich, Great Yarmouth, Kings Lynn and Cambridge, with The Separated Parenting Information Programme (SPIP) continuing to run in Cambridge and Peterborough.
The service prides itself on not only having an outstanding team of accredited mediators, with a wealth of knowledge and experience, but also in providing mediation at a local level and in a way that makes it accessible to all, irrespective of location or income.

Family Mediation
Family mediation is a voluntary and confidential process, which helps joint decision making, minimising the use of courts.
Family mediation is fast becoming the preferred method to resolve and prevent disputes. If children are involved, even though you may cease to be partners, you will always be parents, and we believe you are the best people to decide your children’s future.
Whilst the availability of legal aid to cover the costs of a solicitor has dramatically reduced, it is still available to cover the costs of mediation, so for many people mediation is free.
Who do we help?
- separating couples, with or without children
- married or unmarried couples
- same-sex couples, whether or not in a civil partnership
- teenagers who are finding it difficult to get on with parents
- members of the extended family, e.g. grandparents who may be finding it difficult to see their grandchildren
What can be discussed?
- where children will live when parents separate
- how children will share their time between parents
- how much children will see members of their extended family
- how parents will communicate with one another in the future about their children and other matters
- how child support will be arranged
- how property, pensions, other financial assets and debts will be divided up
- whether any agreements are to be formalised in a Separation Deed or in divorce proceedings
We offer mediation to all, regardless of age, race, nationality, sexuality, mobility, faith and other factors. For those whose first language is other than English, interpreter services can be provided.
