John Clare Primary School
At John Clare Primary School we aim to provide every child with experiences and learning opportunities that excite and challenge and that help to prepare them for their future. As a small school we pride ourselves on knowing our children well and that we can focus on the individual needs of each child and help them to develop their interests and skills. OFSTED 2012 said of the school ‘pupils thoroughly enjoy school …The curriculum is imaginatively planned, with a wide range of exciting experiences that make learning purposeful and relevant’.
‘We learn something new every day’ – Bradley
As a parent I believe there is no better feeling that your child is being looked after to such a level.
…it’s good to feel that school and parents are working together.
… her confidence has grown considerably and she enjoys learning. This is largely due to the quality of teaching and the open approach the school has.
He loves coming to school and that is a testament to the great teaching and care he gets at John Clare.
I’m very happy with this school; you have made her feel very welcome, thank you.
We value the support and opportunities given to assist our child to reach his potential.
We feel that our child is getting a well rounded education and has been challenged academically in Maths and English.
The school is named after the local village poet, John Clare, who lived from 1793-1864. The school was opened July 13 1965 in commemoration of the poet’s birthday. The school celebrates the birth of John Clare every year when they take part in the Midsummer Cushions festival and the John Clare Society Festival.
The School is housed in a pleasant, light airy building with its own playing field. Due to the popularity of the school the school has grown since it was opened in 1965. The school now comprises of 4 classrooms, a music room, a learning zone/library and a small group room. In September 2010 our Reception class, the HelpstonPre-School and Out of School Club moved into a brand new eco-friendly building. We also have a swimming pool and changing facilities. The School field is dual-use and is used by the village after school hours and during weekends and holidays.

Children with special educational needs have learning difficulties that call for special provision to be made. All children may have special needs at some time in their lives. To ensure effective use of resources and accountability, initial concerns relating to a child’s education are recorded on a ‘Logging concerns sheet’. These concerns can be raised by any member of staff and/or parents and are retained in the class SEND file and SEND filingcabinet in the staff room. Strategies employed to enable the child to progress should be recorded within an Individual Education Plan.
Individual Education Plans, which employ a smallsteps approach, feature significantly in the provision made in the school. By breaking down the existing levels of attainment into finely graded steps and targets, helps to ensure that children experience success. Children are supported in a manner that acknowledges their entitlement to share the same learning experiences that their peers enjoy. Wherever possible, children are not withdrawn from the classroom situation. There are times though when, to maximise learning, children work in small groups, or in a onetoone situation outside the classroom.
